How to manage social media for small businesses (Tips to prevent burnout)

June 19, 2024

I know how it feels, social media can feel like a second job…

And honestly, that’s because IT IS.

Social media managers and content creators are an amazing investment, but not everyone can afford that extra expense in their business just yet.

Here are some best practices and tips that can help you manage your social media on your own, sustainably.

1. Consistency does not mean every day!

Will posting every day help you grow faster? Yes, of course! But that doesn’t mean that posting 2 or 3 days a week means you won’t grow at all.

Find a realistic and sustainable cadence for posting that works for you and your business. You can always add days later If you are comfortable so start small.

Even on my own Instagram, I struggle to commit to too many days, so you’re not alone!

2. Content Ideas are all around you.

It’s true, everything is content. and it’s MUCH easier to recognize good ideas throughout the day than it is to sit down and force ideas.

So keep a safe place (preferably in your phone since it’s always with you) where you can save ideas as they come to you. This will make content creation SOOOO much easier.

If you want a great way to come up with a ton of content ideas and plan them out for FREE, check out this Google Sheet Content Planning Template

3. Block time for Bulk creating

If you food prep at the start of the week, chances are it’s going to be a hell of a lot easier to make meals that week.

The same goes for content creation. Block time on your calendar to plan and create content. You will save a ton of time and help get yourself into a flow.

4. Create Content for your ideal client

Whenever you are creating content or brainstorming Ideas, be sure to keep your clients in mind and what they would find valuable, relatable, or entertaining.

Often times as professionals, we can have a habit of sharing content that fellow professionals in our field would relate to but not necessarily our clients.

5. Outsource social media tasks where you can

Okay so maybe you can’t full-send it and hire a social media manager or content creator, but if you have it in the budget to do some of your social media tasks, it could save you a lot of time and stress.
